We demonstrate an efficiency-enhanced picosecond (ps) mid-infrared radiation via optical parametric downconversion. Based on a cascaded periodically poled MgO-doped stoichiometric lithium tantalate crystal (MgO:sPPLT), a tandem optical parametric oscillation-optical parametric amplification (OPO-OPA) process is achieved. Compared with a single OPO process, the conversion efficiency obtains an enhancement of 71%.

We demonstrate a tunable optical parametric oscillator in a periodically poled congruently grown lithium tantalite whispering gallery mode resonator. The resonator is mechanically polished to millimeter size, and the quality factor is approximately 107 at 1064 nm. Our experiments show that this kind of resonator is capable of reaching a very low threshold and having a wide tuning range. Combined with its narrow resonant linewidth, it is potentially used as a compact, widely tunable, and narrow-linewidth infrared to mid-infrared laser source.

利用波长为1064 nm 的光纤激光器作为抽运光源,采用具有双通道(极化周期分别为30 μm 和30.5 μm)的化学计量比钽酸锂超晶格(PPSLT)晶体作为非线性工作介质,在PPSLT 晶体温度为190 oC 时,获得了1568.4、1625.9、3078.8、3231.1 nm 四波长近-中红外激光同时输出。在抽运功率为37 W,重复频率为50 kHz时,获得了14.9 W 近-中红外激光输出,四波长激光的功率分别为3.71、4.36、3.21、3.62 W。通过调节PPSLT晶体温度,可以实现可调谐输出。进一步优化光参量振荡器谐振腔,可以实现四波长相同功率输出。
